Leicestershire and Rutland Museums Forum is a membership organisation for all museums in the two counties. The majority of these museums are run solely by volunteers and the Forum provides members with access to a network of advice, shared experience and opportunities.
From racing cars and steam engines to Roman coins and teapots, these museums have much to offer. Larger museums provide changing exhibitions and events throughout the year while most of the smaller museums have a new exhibition. Some offer personal assistance with your enquiries (especially family history research – look out for the logo).
Our website shows you which museums are Registered. A museum becomes Registered when it has met the criteria set down by MLA: The Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives, in collections care and management.
Our free Annual Exhibition at Snibston Discovery Park lets you sample the range and wealth of museums within the two counties.
The Leicestershire Heritage Awards are sponsored by the Leicester Mercury and organised by Leicestershire County Council Museums Service. Awards are made annually for the Best Publication, Best Event, Best Exhibition and Best Restoration Project. Look for the Heritage Award logo to see which museums have won the award.
